Our Opportunity:

Chewy is seeking a Senior SEO Manager to join our high-performing SEO team in our Boston, MA office. You will own the SEO strategy and roadmap for one of Chewy’s largest categories in our e-commerce business. You’ll execute your strategy and roadmap through dedicated Product Management, Data Science and Software Engineering resources while partnering closely with category leaders and site merchandisers.

The ideal candidate will be extremely analytical and customer obsessed. They will cringe at the phrase “SEO best practices” and instead lean on their analytical prowess to reverse engineer how different parts of search engines work through data analysis and experimentation. They will have a bias for action and understanding that execution pays for ideation. The ideal candidate will also be an effective writer and speaker who is comfortable leading and navigating conversations with senior leadership/C-Suite.

What You’ll Do:

  • Identify the total SEO traffic and revenue opportunity for Chewy in a single business unit (e.g., Consumables, Hard Goods, Pharmacy, etc.), create a strategy and set goals to capture that opportunity in partnership with teams across Category Management, Site Experience, Product Management, Data Science, and Engineering.
  • Communicate your strategy, goals, and progress to goals in a written format to senior leaders and internal stakeholders
  • Conduct in-depth analyses of search engine data from first-party and third-party data sources (e.g., SEO traffic data, rankings data, search console data, etc) and partner with software engineers to build new internal tools to procure data when it’s not available from an existing source.
  • Conduct experiments to test hypotheses you develop through data analysis, analyze and share experiment results.
  • Provide guidance to category managers, site merchandisers, vendor partners, and product managers to build SEO requirements into their workflows and processes.
  • Exhibit a strong sense of ownership, bias for action, and superior communication skills; be willing to roll up your sleeves to get the job done.

What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Computer Science, Finance, Marketing, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of total work experience preferred; 3+ years of experience in SEO preferred with other experience in Product Management, Finance, Category Management, Consulting, or Business Intelligence.
  • Deep experience in every facet of SEO: technical SEO, on-page factors, user experience, performance, etc. (you won’t do any link building here so that’s not relevant).
  • Strong desire to put the customer’s needs ahead of a search engine algorithm.
  • Excellent analytical skills with demonstrated experience turning data into actionable insights.
  • Deep understanding of how search engines crawl, render, index, and rank web pages.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and data presentation skills, including an ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams.
  • This position may require travel.

Bonus:

  • Experience with SEO A/B testing
  • Experience with SQL and a statistical programming language like Python or R
  • Friends at Google who you can influence to manually manipulate the algorithm in our favor
