SEO Specialist – (local or remote position)

The SEO Specialist will support Montway’s team on a variety of SEO-related projects across Montway’s web properties. They’ll work in close alignment with the Senior SEO Manager, as well as our copywriting and development teams to achieve maximum organic visibility for our target audiences.

General Summary

We’re looking for an SEO Specialist to join our growing marketing team. A passion for the digital world, problem-solving, attention to detail, and a desire to learn are necessary. We’re searching out individuals who are both “right-brained” (creative) and “left-brained” (analytical). This ideal person for this role should:

  • Be a team player that’s enthusiastic about collaboration
  • Have a solid understanding of technical and content-related SEO across both local & non-local audiences
  • Be able to demonstrate previous experience in creating and executing successful SEO strategies
  • Have prior experience running audits, conducting competitive analysis, and reporting performance to stakeholders
  • Help produce organically high-performing content

The SEO Specialist will support Montway’s team on a variety of SEO-related projects across Montway’s web properties. They’ll work in close alignment with the Senior SEO Manager, as well as our copywriting and development teams to achieve maximum organic visibility for our target audiences.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support the Senior SEO Manager with developing and executing high-level SEO strategies, auditing, and reporting
  • Regularly collaborate with the Senior SEO manager on work progress and findings, and share recommendations/feedback
  • Leverage SEO tools to identify and recommend SEO opportunities pertaining to content, linking, or technical elements
  • Run and analyze audits (content, technical, linking) to provide insights into performance and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Regularly conduct competitor analysis to identify new SEO opportunities or threats
  • Assist in creation and/or maintenance of organic keyword and performance metric tracking in platforms like SEMRush, Google Analytics, etc.
  • Assist in running SEO A/B, split, or multivariate tests
  • Conduct keyword research for new and existing content
  • Participate in regular and one-off meetings with cross-functional teams across the marketing department
  • Regularly collaborate with the copywriting team by reviewing and providing SEO recommendations on organically visible content as it moves through our pipeline
  • Work with development and design teams to implement SEO-led items and consult on SEO best practices
  • Be available to provide actionable SEO recommendations to team members when requested
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest SEO news, tools, best practices, and algorithm updates
  • Identify, test, and recommend new SEO-related tools
  • Regularly share your SEO ideas with the team
  • Work using our project management software to create new SEO tickets as needed, and move existing tickets through the pipeline

Qualifications, Skills, Traits and Abilities

  • 2+ years of full-time SEO experience at an in-house company and/or agency required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Marketing, Business or any quantitative or analytical-related degree preferred
  • Deep working knowledge of technical and on-page SEO best practices including, but not limited to, tactics surrounding keyword research & analysis, content/topic clustering, on-page optimization, site architecture, backlink auditing, Core Web Vitals/PageExperience, Google-supported JSON schema markup, crawling & indexing, content consolidation & expiration, and general SEO troubleshooting
  • Strong comprehension of search intent and what it means to match search intent
  • Solid experience with the following: Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Screaming Frog, Moz, SEMrush, Ahrefs, Chrome DevTools/Lighthouse (Google Tag Manager, GA4 nice-to-have)
  • Prior CMS experience, preferably with WordPress
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS and Javascript in relation to SEO, SQL/MySQL is a bonus
  • Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills (Ex: Dashboards, Pivot tables, Vlookup, filters, validations, and other useful functions)
  • Prior experience conducting site-wide technical & content-related SEO audits
  • Prior experience with SEO competitor analysis
  • Ability to create and analyze reports in order to generate insights
  • Experience with CRO, AB/multivariate/split testing is a plus
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Ability to think outside of the box and generate new ideas is a must
  • Ability to work independently to identify, collaborate, and execute new strategies that lead towards key objectives
  • Ability and willingness to jump in and support the team on new or existing SEO-related projects when requested
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, agency partners, contractors, and corporate contacts across multiple channels and timezones
