ABOUT YOUR NEW ROLE

The Sporting News is seeking a Technical SEO analyst to join its growing BI & Audience team.  In this role, you will use SEO strategies to set organizational best practices and standards and will be a key collaborator across Editorial, Product, and Commercial efforts.  The ideal candidate has a strong knowledge of SEO principles and experience implementing SEO programs following the key tenets (e.g. on-page, site structure, link building, keyword research, content structure & strategy).  You will work closely with Product and Development teams to ensure SEO best practices are followed in all areas of our operations across both new and existing product development.  While a key focus will be on the technical SEO components, you will also play an important role in supporting our Editorial teams with your SEO expertise.

This role can be done in Charlotte, NC, or remotely, and reports into the VP, Business Intelligence.

 

HERE’S A BREAKDOWN OF WHAT YOU’LL (PRIMARILY) DO

  • Establish SEO ways of working and embed SEO into technical, product, and editorial workstreams
  • Audit the current technical SEO framework and establish a go-forward playbook, identifying both short-term and long-term strategy
  • Oversee the technical SEO approach to regionalization of multiple editions and languages
  • Collaborate with fellow SEO team colleagues to enact SEO strategy across the business (e.g. Affiliate)
  • Review the existing platform(s) and content to identify areas of opportunity where SEO-led strategy can deliver additional value to business
  • Collaborate with Editorial teams, implementing strategies such as keyword research to support content planning
  • Create proper measurement and tooling plan to optimize SEO approach and monitoring
  • Develop a robust link building and outreach strategy

DO YOU HAVE THESE ESSENTIALS?

  • 5+ years experience in SEO
  • Expertise in on-page, site structure, link building, keyword research
  • Experience working with Product, Development, and Editorial teams to further SEO best practice
  • Familiarity with Analytics (e.g. GA4) and SEO (e.g. Semrush, Ahrefs) tooling
  • Experience designing organizational SEO strategies and best practices

 

NOT ESSENTIAL BUT GREAT IF YOU ALSO HAD

 

  • Experience working in an SEO role across a global multi-platform publishing portfolio
  • Expertise in News SEO
  • Familiarity with using SEO as part of an Affiliate content and conversion strategy
