POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Vice President of GIS and Data Science, the Website Administrator will manage all of American Forests’ websites. This will include developing new website modules, ensuring plugin stability and security, and managing underlying servers and databases.

This role provides a great opportunity for an early career professional with 0-3 years of related work experience to utilize multiple programming, technology, and organizational skills and explore opportunities to specialize at a rapidly growing, mission-driven non-profit. The ideal candidate will have a combination of education and work experience with expertise in programming, problem-solving, analytics, project management, and critical thinking.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

The Website Administrator is responsible for the following:

Website Management (55%)

  • Plan, implement, manage, monitor, update, and upgrade the American Forests main site and ancillary sites (Vibrant Cities Lab, Forest Climate Working Group, 1t.org U.S. Chapter, and the Women’s Forest Congress)
  • Develop end-to-end website functionality tests.
  • Collaborate with American Forests’ Development & Communications teams to develop strategies to grow subscriber base and web traffic metrics.
  • Design and maintain internal tools for organizational productivity (ex: automate data imports, email notifications about donations, etc.)
  • Convert UI mock-ups and designs into reusable web components and templates, considering challenges around scaling to different forms of content and ongoing maintenance.
  • Develop plans for completing larger website projects (refactoring code, updating pages to a new design format, CI/CD deployment) and implementing creative solutions to website challenges.
  • Work with program staff, AF’s tech consultant, and others to manage and expand American Forests’ CRM and other databases.
  • Training or directing users on the correct use of modules within the database systems.
  • Proficient in using HTML, CSS, and Javascript/Typescript to design websites that work across different browsers and devices.
  • Familiar with firewalls, remote access to machines, MySQL, and PHP for maintaining the infrastructure underlying websites.
  • Strong understanding of Wordpress or other content management systems (CMS)
  • Experience with databases, networks (LAN, WAN), and patch management
  • Experience with Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, ems engineering, or related field
  • Working knowledge of JQuery, PHP, REST, and SOAP as well as UI design
  • Experience working with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software

Web Development (35%)

  • Design and maintain internal tools for organizational productivity (ex: automate data imports, email notifications about donations, etc.)
  • Convert UI mock-ups and designs into reusable web components and templates, considering challenges around scaling to different forms of content and ongoing maintenance.
  • Develop plans for completing larger website projects (refactoring code, updating pages to a new design format, CI/CD deployment) and implementing creative solutions to website challenges.

Database support (10%)

  • Work with program staff, AF’s tech consultant, and others to manage and expand American Forests’ CRM and other databases.
  • Training or directing users on the correct use of modules within the database systems.
