Full Job Description

  • VHL Alliance: VHL Alliance (VHLA) is a 501c3 non-profit organization founded in 1993. VHL Alliance is the preeminent resource and clearinghouse of patients, caregivers, researchers, and the medical community.
  • Mission: Improving quality of life and health outcomes for VHL patients, families, and caregivers with inclusive community building, connections to excellent education and treatment options, and advancements in medical research.

  • Position Summary:
  • The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for the development and supervision of all marketing and communications strategies for VHL Alliance. This individual will oversee the development of goals, strategies, and implementation plans to execute comprehensive marketing campaigns. Responsibilities include but may not be limited to the following:


  • Create and implement a viable marketing and communications strategy
  • Develop marketing and communications plans to promote educations, awareness, research, publications and advocacy efforts
  • Manage website and newsletter content
  • Maintain communications editorial calendar for staff use for web, email and social media
  • Contribute to corporate/partner engagement content development in collaboration with key staff (Annual Appeal, Annual Report)
  • Partner with staff to provide marketing and communications support, including branding and online engagement
  • Develop materials for use in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding organizational advancement
  • Manage the creation of publications to support research, fundraising, and community engagement
  • Work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Social Media Management

  • Manage all aspects of social media presence (Website, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok)
  • Drive strategy to increase daily engagement on social media accounts
  • Lead content creation for social media, including tweets, posts & videos
  • Increase awareness of key initiatives and special events

Data & Analytics

  • Monitor, report and present on online engagement analytics (web, email, social media, earned media)
  • Leverage key engagement metrics across platforms to optimize content, messaging and distribution
  • Knowledge of SEO and Google Analytics


  • 5-7 years of relevant professional experience in communications and/or marketing, preferably in a nonprofit organization
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Preferably in a related field, such as journalism, public relations or communications
  • Proven results in managing social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, etc.) to engage a diverse audience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong attention to detail and proofreading skills
  • Proven results in implementing marketing and communications strategic plans
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms and basic HTML (WordPress, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while managing deadlines
  • Passion for DEI and supporting rare disease community
  • Management or leadership experience with the ability to lead and direct others is preferred
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills with a demonstrated record of achieving goals and outcomes
  • Able to exercise sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential information
